Mountain Island Charter won its second straight N.C. High School Athletic Association Class 1A track championship at North Carolina A&T on Saturday.

The Raptors finished with 99 team points to outdistance second-place Union Academy by 47 points.

Mountain Island Charter won five events outright, including a pair of relay races. The Raptors were led by Trevin Moyer, who won the 100-, 200- and 400-meter dashes. Moyer won the 100 with a time of 10.66 seconds, the 200 in 21.78 second and the 400 in 46.97 seconds.

In the 1A girls championship meet, Swain County won the team title (edging North Rowan by three points at 80-77) while Highland Tech’s Lauren Tolbert set a state record in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:09.37; It eclipsed the previous 1A Meet Record of 2;12.26 set by Community School of Davidson star Malia Ellington in 2015.

A Duke University signee, Tolbert had a spectacular meet. In addition to breaking the 800 1A record, she won in the 100- and 200-meter dashes with winning times of 12.54 and 25.27 seconds, respectively, to earn 1A girls Most Outstanding Performer honors.
