5-12-22 roundup: Pro baseball, basketball, football, soccer and hockey, High school baseball, softball, tennis and girls soccer

The Carolina Panthers’ 2022 schedule was released Thursday night and the team hosts four of its first five games, will play one nationally-televised game and closes the season on the road for six of the last 11 games.
Carolina opens the 2022 season at home against the Cleveland Browns in a 1 p.m. game. It marks only the second time in team history the Panthers will open against a AFC North team; Carolina opened the 2002 season against Baltimore.
The Panthers close the season in familiar fashion as they visit New Orleans on Jan. 7 or 8. It’s the 19th straight year the team has close against a NFC South rival, 11th time against the Saints and fourth time in the last five seasons.
