Six of the top 10 golfers in the current World Golf Rankings will be in the field this week as the Wells Fargo Golf Championship at Charlotte’s Quail Hollow Club.
Rory McIlroy (No. 3), Patrick Cantlay (No. 4), Xander Schauffele (No. 5), Matt Fitzpatrick (No. 6), Max Homa (No. 7) and Jordan Speith (No. 10) are among the top 10 players in the field, with McIlrory (2010, 2015, 2021) and Homa (2019, 2022) the only multi-time winners of the event.
Practice rounds and celebrity challenges are set for Monday, with pro-am events Tuesday and Wednesday and the four-round tournament begins on Thursday.

Gardner-Webb receiver T.J. Luther became the most recent Bulldogs’ player to signed with a NFL team as he signed a rookie free agent deal with the New York Jets on Saturday evening.
An Arcadia, Fla., native, Luther earned FCS All-America honors from Phil Steele College Football after he helped Gardner-Webb to a history 2022 season in which Gardner-Webb won the Big South Conference title and played and won its first-ever Football Championship Series playoff game.
A 6-foot, 185-pounder, Luther led Gardner-Webb with 63 catches for 1,166 yards and eight touchdowns.
He become the 19th Bulldogs player to sign or be drafted into the NFL, the first coming in 1973.

High school baseball fundraiser
The North Gaston High Alumni baseball game to benefit the Houston Patterson Memorial Scholarship will be played May 13 at 11 a.m. at the school’s baseball field.
North Gaston will be selling T-shirts and concessions during team. All North Gaston graduates are eligible to play in the game.
