Six teams from Cleveland, Gaston and Lincoln counties will be competing in the N.C. High School Athletic Association boys tennis dual team playoffs that begin on Wednesday.

Here are the first round pairings:
Class 3A No. 4 South Point (11-0) hosts No. 13 Rockingham County (9-2)
Class 3A No. 11 Crest (10-1) at No. 6 West Henderson (12-1)
Class 2A No. 1 Lincolnton (7-0) hosts No. 16 East Surry (11-6)
Class 2A No. 4 Lincoln Charter (8-1) hosts No. 13 West Stanly (8-6)
Class 2A No. 8 Burns (9-4) hosts No. 9 Swannanoa Owen (8-5)
Class 1A No. 13 Cherryville (4-9) at No. 4 Kernersville Bishop McGuinness (12-3)
Winners of opening round matchups advance to May 3 second round matchups. Third round matches are on May 9, regional finals are on May 11 and state championships are on May 14 at the Burlingon Tennis Center.
College athletics
A report Monday night indicates Queens University of Charlotte is expected to join NCAA Division I as a member of the Atlantic Sun Conference.
The league currently includes schools in Alabama (Jacksonville State, North Alabama), Arkansas (Central Arkansas), Florida (Florida Gulf Coast, Jacksonville, North Florida, Stetson), Georgia (Kennesaw State), Kentucky (Eastern Kentucky, Bellarmine), Tennessee (Lipscomb) and Virginia (Liberty). And Tennessee’s Austin Peay will be joining the league in the fall.
