He was joined on the all-tournament team by East Gaston teammates Logan Agosta, Dylan Howell and Daniel McClellan, North Gaston’s Austin Wood and Ashton Pope, Forestview’s Jesse Osborne and Austin Parker, Cramer’s Julian Hall and Hunter Reavis, Ashbrook’s Johann Antonio, Highland Tech’s Gavin Blackwell, Bessemer City’s Nik Ellis and Huss’ Ben Kimmel.

Logan Agosta was the top hitter in the tournament with seven hits and a .636 average.

In the Shelby Easter tournament, Kings Mountain dominated top individual honors as Caleb Broome was named defensive MVP, Wyatt Davis was named tournament MVP and Jacob Hamrick was named offensive MVP; Davis and Peyton Fisher combined on an 8-0 shutout win over Crest in Thursday’s championship game at Shelby’s Keeter Stadium.

College baseball

Gaston College’s nationally-ranked baseball team split a doubleheader on Saturday with Catawba Valley Community College at Hickory’s Henkel-Alley Field as the Rhinos moved within one victory a pair of milestones. Gaston College won 8-4 in the opener before losing 8-6 in the nightcap.

The Rhinos (39-5, 29-4), who have already clinched the Region 10 Division II Western Division title, can pick up a 40th overall victory and 30th league victory in Sunday’s noon game that closes out the three-game series. Gaston College is ranked No. 2 in one National Junior College Athletic Association poll and No. 3 in two others.
