One of the area’s winningest coaches reached a career milestone last week when West Lincoln High softball coach Allan Chapman took the 400th win of his coaching career.

Chapman, who reached the milestone in last Wednesday’s 16-1 victory over Patton, is in his 29th season as a head coach at West Lincoln highlighted by 19 postseason appearance and 4 coach of the year honors.

He guided the Rebels’ baseball program to 319 wins, 13 playoff appearances, 7 conference titles and 2 Western N.C. runner-up finishes in 22 seasons.

For the last 7 seasons, he’s guided the Rebels’ softball program to 81 wins and 6 playoff appearances.

College volleyball

Belmont Abbey will meet No. 2-seeded host Long Beach State in the quarterfinals of the NCAA men’s volleyball championship on April 29 at 8 p.m. ET.

Belmont Abbey’s 2024 Conference Carolinas men’s volleyball champions.

The Crusaders (21-4) are the No. 7 seed and claimed their 2nd Conference Carolinas championship on Saturday in a 3-1 win over North Greenville at the North Charleston Athletic Center.

The Crusaders, whose 1st title came in 2021, also were a No. 7 seed in that year’s NCAA championship and lost to No. 6 Penn State 3-0 in their opening round match.

Tuesday’s Abbey-Long Beach State winner would advance to a May 2 semifinal against the winner of the No. 3 Grand Canyon-No. 6 seed Ohio State match.

Cancellation: Sunday’s game between the Charlotte Knights and Syracuse Mets from Charlotte’s Truist Field was cancelled due to rain. Since the two teams are not scheduled to play again during the first half of the 2024 season, the game will not be made up.
