In a year where parity and unexpected results have been the norm, Connecticut has a chance Monday night to join some select NCAA basketball company.

The Huskies can become the sixth school in NCAA tournament history with five or more championships if the Huskies can knock off San Diego State in the 2023 championship game.

Entering Monday, the only schools with five or more championships are UCLA (11), Kentucky (8), North Carolina (6), Duke (5) and Indiana (5).

The short-handed Charlotte dropped their second straight game in Sunday afternoon’s 128-108 home loss to the Toronto Raptors.

Without LaMelo Ball (right ankle), Cody Martin (left knee), Terry Rozier (right foot), Gordon Hayward (left thumb), Kelly Oubre (right shoulder), Dennis Smith Jr. (right big toe) and P.J. Washington (right foot), the Hornets led only briefly and fell to 26-53 on the season.

Svi Mykhailiuk (26 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists), James Bouknight (21 points), Mark Williams (15 points, 12 rebounds) and Theo Maldeon (8 points, 8 rebounds, 14 assists) led Charlotte.

Charlotte 6, Memphis 5: Knights’ first baseman Zach Remillard dashed home from third base on a wild pitch in the bottom of the eighth inning to score the go-ahead run as Charlotte won the three-game series 2 games to 1 at Charlotte’s Truist Field.
