4-18-22 roundup: Pro basketball and soccer, High school baseball, College baseball

By Richard Walker

Some high school tournaments dodged Monday’s raindrops and others were postponed.

At Gastonia’s Sims Legion Park, the Gaston County Baseball Championship made its return to action after two years off due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

East Gaston, Forestview, North Gaston and Cramer were Monday’s first round winners and advance into Tuesday’s semifinals of an event that began in 1987.

South Point, which has won the most GCB titles with eight, along with Cherryville were the two county schools that aren’t in the 2022 tournament.

Cramer will be seeking its first-ever tournament title game appearance when it meets North Gaston on Tuesday at 7 p.m. while East Gaston seeks a record 13th title game appearance when it meets Forestview at 4 p.m. on Tuesday; East Gaston and South Point are currently tied with 12 championship game appearances and are followed by North Gaston (9), Ashbrook (8), Cherryville (7) and Forestview (7).
