The Charlotte 49ers and Gardner-Webb announced their 2022 college football schedules on Wednesday.
Charlotte plays a schedule with eight Conference USA games and seven 2021 bowl teams and includes a first-ever home game against a Big Ten opponent (Maryland) and first-ever road game at South Carolina of the SEC.
Fourth-year 49ers head coach Will Healy’s team plays 12 total games – six at home and six on the road – beginning with a Aug. 27 league road game at Florida Atlantic.
Charlotte’s home opener will be Sept. 2 against William & Mary.

The Runnin’ Bulldogs open their third season under head coach Tre Lamb on Sept. 3 against Limestone.

Miles Bridges scored 31 points and LaMelo Ball had 20 points and 15 rebounds as the Charlotte Hornets defeated the New York Knicks 125-114.
Kelly Oubre Jr. scored 21 points on 8-for-11 shooting, including four 3-pointers, and Terry Rozier added 15 points for the Hornets, who have won eight of their last 11 games.
The Hornets (40-37) moved into a tie with idle Brooklyn for the eighth spot in the Eastern Conference with the fourth season of 40 or more wins since the NBA returned to Charlotte in 2004.
