North Gaston High School has a new football coach.
Dan Rothwell, a Michigan native who spent 10 years coaching in his home state, was named North Gaston’s 10th head football coach on Tuesday.
Rothwell has coached in Gaston and Mecklenburg counties the past six years, most recently as defensive line coach and head wrestling coach at Charlotte’s Berry Academy.
He inherits a program that went 1-9 overall last season and 1-6 in the Big South 3A Conference. The Wildcats’ Big South victory was the school’s first since 2015.
