3-14-23 roundup: Pro basketball and soccer, High school baseball, softball and soccer, College basketball and baseball
By Richard Walker
Former Crest High standout Lawson Harrill of Campbell and Gardner-Webb junior pitcher Casey Young on Monday were given top baseball honors by the Big South Conference.

Harrill, a 2019 Crest graduate and junior outfielder for the Camels, was named the league’s player of the week after hitting three home runs with a .600 average, six runs scored, eight RBIs and a 1.600 slugging percentage. Harrill also drew six walks and finished with a .750 on-base average as Campbell improved to 12-2 with a pair of wins over Tulane and Appalachian State.
Young tossed a 94-pitch complete game shutout for the Runnin’ Bulldogs in which he scattered just three hits with one walk while striking out eight batters in an 8-0 win over St. Bonaventure last Friday. He retired the side five times, and recorded seven of his eight strikeouts in the final five innings of the contest.
