2-5-24 roundup: Pro football and basketball, College basketball, High school basketball, Middle school basketball

By Richard Walker

New Carolina Panthers head coach Dave Canales said at his introductory news conference last Thursday that retaining defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero would be important to his rebuilding job.

On Monday, Canales reportedly convinced Evero to remain on the coaching staff.

It’s part of a coaching staff pursuit Canales has undergone since being hired Jan. 25.

Already, longtime Canales coaching colleagues Brad Idzik (offensive coordinator) and Tracy Smith (special teams coordinator) are expected to join the staff.

And former Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ assistant head coach and run game coordinator Harold Goodwin, former Tennessee Titans wide receivers assistant coach Rob Moore, former Jacksonville Jaguars offensive line assistant coach Bernie Parmalee, former Buccaneers’ offensive line assistant coach Joe Gilbert have already been hired.
