The Charlotte 49ers rode the momentum of the school’s Halton Arena sellout crowd in 11 years to set a school record for consecutive conference wins in a 67-52 victory over East Carolina.

A sellout crowd of 8,201 filled Halton Arena for Charlotte’s record-setting 8th straight league victory on Saturday.

The 49ers’ 8th straight American Athletic Conference victory improved them to 14-7 overall and 8-1 in league play.

“Extremely proud of our guys,” Charlotte interim head coach Aaron Fearne said after the win in front of a crowd of 8,201. “I want our players, students, and the community to have an unbelievable experience.”

On Friday night, more than 120 students that camped out the night prior in support of “Fearneville” and Charlotte Men’s Basketball. The 49ers were greeted with the return of many alumni, including former head men’s basketball coach Bobby Lutz for the 1st time in many year.

Igor Milicic Jr. (12 points, 10 rebounds, 5 blocks) and Lu’Cye Patterson (16 points) led Charlotte, which embarks on a 2-game road trip next week – at South Florida on Tuesday and at Temple on Sunday. Tuesday’s game is a 9 p.m. start and will be televised on ESPN2.
