Pro football

Another woeful offensive effort dropped the Carolina Panthers to 1-8 on the season after losing 16-13 at the Chicago Bears on Thursday night.

Carolina’s No. 1 overall pick quarterback Bryce Young struggled again as the Panthers recorded less than 100 yards in the 1st half of back-to-back games for the 1st time since 2010.

Undrafted rookie free agent Tyson Bagent led Chicago to the a victory that improved the Bears to 3-7 on a night in which Carolina’s lone TD came on a 79-yard punt return by Ihmir Smith-Marsette.

Former Panthers D.J. Moore (5 catches for 58 yards) and D’Onta Foreman (21 carries for 80 yards and 1 TD) had big games for the Bears, whose defense limited Carolina to 213 yards total offense.

The Panthers’ chose to kick a field goal on 4th-and-10 at the Chicago 41 and Eddy Pineiro’s game-tying 59-yard field goal try came up short with 1:35 left.

Then Chicago picked up a 1st down to close out the game.
