Drake Maye already knew he was making a homecoming visit when he leads North Carolina into Saturday’s 8 p.m. ACC championship game against Clemson at Charlotte’s Bank of America Stadium.

On Wednesday, the former Myers Park High standout will also be playing his first game as an ACC individual award winner after the league announced he became only the second player in ACC history to win ACC Player of the Year, Offensive Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year and Offensive Rookie of the Year in the same season.
Maye, a redshirt freshman quarterback, joins current New Orleans Saints quarterback Jameis Winston as the only other ACC player to do so; Winston won those four awards in the 2013 season for Florida State.
In his first season as a starter, Maye completed 298 of 440 passes for 3,847 yards and 35 touchdowns. The 3,847 yards are second among NCAA Power 5 conference and is a UNC school record. The 35 TD throws is tied for second among Power 5.
Maye also leads the team in rushing with 629 yards and six touchdowns. His 373.0 yards per game total offense lead the nation and his 41 touchdowns responsibility ranks third.
