The 49th “Battle for the Hornets’ Nest” basketball game on Tuesday between the Charlotte 49ers and Davidson College will feature a new corporate partner.
The Hornets’ Nest series began in the 1978-79 season and Davidson’s 75-58 victory last year makes it the current holder of the trophy though the 49ers hold a 30-18 all-time series lead.
Said Chris Clunie, Davidson Wildcats athletic director, said: “Our strategic partnership with OrthoCarolina embodies a holistic and impactful approach to the care of our scholar-athletes. Dr. Bobby Morgan and Physician Assistant Jeff Dabkowski continue to provide the highest levels of service and partnership. We appreciate OrthoCarolina’s support of our annual cross county rivalry game, and we are excited to return to Belk Arena this year in front of our amazing fans.”
Said Mike Hill, Charlotte athletic director: “Our partnership with OrthoCarolina is integral to what we do as an athletic department from top to bottom. We are grateful for their sponsorship of this game and their investment in our student athletes. The excitement is palpable and we’re incredibly excited to travel to a great college basketball venue to play in an exceptional college basketball rivalry Tuesday night.”
