Crest, Shelby and South Point will be practicing on Thanksgiving Day.
All three perennial local high school football powers took convincing playoff wins on Friday night to advance into next Friday’s regional semifinal round of the N.C. High School Athletic Association playoffs.
Crest scored the first 21 points of the game before cruising to a 35-14 home win over North Davidson in a Class 3A playoff game. Running back Mari Adams continued to shine for the Chargers and scored the game’s first two touchdowns.
Shelby broke open a close game with a 21-point second quarter in a 64-15 win over Class 2A league rival East Gaston. The Golden Lions scored on three kickoff returns and a fumble return.
South Point broke open a game that was tied at 7 in the first half to down visiting Forestview 27-7 in 3A playoff game. Elijah Phifer’s 7-yard run with five minutes left in the first half snapped the 7-all tie and sparked the Red Raiders to a game-closing 20-0 surge.
Meanwhile, Kings Mountain fell 36-10 at Greensboro Dudley in a 3A playoff game after tying the score at 7 in the first half.
Next week, Shelby will host perennial power Reidsville and Crest will host South Point in a rematch of a closely-contested regular season matchup.
