11-18-22 roundup: Pro basketball and football, High school football and basketball, College football, basketball and baseball, Middle school soccer, volleyball and wrestling

By Richard Walker

It was a nailbiting finish in three of the area’s four high school football playoff games on Friday night as Burns, Kings Mountain and South Point took dramatic victories.

Burns scored the game-winning touchdown with 1:30 to play in a 24-20 win over visiting Salisbury, Kings Mountain scored with 6.7 seconds left in a 22-19 win over visiting West Charlotte and South Point stopped Crest on fourth-and-goal at the 1 to preserve a 21-20 victory.

In the other game, East Lincoln rolled to a 28-7 victory over visiting Ledford.

The results set up a huge local matchup next week in a Western Class 3A semifinal as East Lincoln will play at Kings Mountain in a battle of unbeatens. The other matchups will have South Point hosting Eastern Guilford in the other Western 3A semifinal and Burns hosting Monroe in a Western 2A semifinal.

Here’s a closer look at each game:

Burns 24, Salisbury 20: Ryan Thompson’s 2-yard TD run with 1:30 left was the difference as the Bulldogs rallied from a 20-17 deficit. It was Thompson’s second touchdown of the game.

West Charlotte 22, West Charlotte 19: Kings Mountain scored two touchdowns in the final 6 1-2 minutes to rally from a 19-7 deficit to keep its unbeaten season alive. Lamont Littlejohn completed a 9-yard TD pass to Bryson Brown with 6:37 to play, then Littlejohn scored the game-winner on a 1-yard quarterback sneak with 6.7 seconds left for the game-winner.

East Lincoln 28, Ledford 7: Four different players scored touchowns for the Mustangs, including three in the first quarter.

South Point 21, Crest 20: Cam Medlock scored two touchdowns and Patrick Blee one for the Red Raiders, who trailed 14-0 in the first quarter and stopped Crest on a fourth-and-goal play at the 1 in the final seconds to clinch the victory.
