The first-year Cleveland Community College Yetis’ men’s and women’s basketball teams have the most local products as the 2023-24 season has gotten underway for local players and coaches all across the country.

Cleveland Community College’s 2023-24 men’s basketball team

The Yetis’ men’s team has 3 players and 2 coaches with local ties.

Freshmen point guards Kevin Kollock (Crest 2022 graduate) and Elijah Burnett (Lincoln Charter 2023) and sophomore forward Jadien Merrit (Crest 2021) are on the school’s first men’s team since the 1970s. And former Kings Mountain High head coach Grayson Pierce (Crest 2003) is Cleveland Community College’s head coach.

The Yetis’ first-ever women’s basketball team has freshman guard Grace East (Piedmont Community Charter 2023) on its roster and Scooter Lawrence (Shelby 2004) is the team’s inaugural head coach.

Elon: Former Belmont Abbey head coach Billy Taylor is a 2nd-year head coach for the Phoenix and former Belmont Abbey assistant coaches Josh Gross and Ryan Saunders are on his coaching staff.

Erskine: Corey Gaines (Gaston Christian 2023) is a freshman guard and Jaylen Prioleau (Piedmont Community Charter 2019) is a senior guard/forward for the Flying Fleet.

Florida State: Leonard Hamilton (Highland 1966, Gaston College 1968) is a 22nd-year head coach for the Seminoles.

Gardner-Webb: Former Belmont Abbey player Quest Aldridge and Anthony Phillips (Mountain Island Charter 2020) are senior guards and Shelby’s Isaiah Hicks is a freshman guard for the Bulldogs.

Gaston College: Chance Jefferies (Lincolnton 2023) and Anthony Davis (Lincoln Charter 2020) are freshman guards for the Rhinos.

Georgia State: Former Belmont Abbey assistant coach Jonas Hayes is a 2nd-year head coach for the Panthers.

Hood: Troy Fulton (Lincoln Charter 2021) is a junior guard for the Blazers.

J.C. Smith: Ezekiel Cannedy (Kings Mountain 2022) is a sophomore guard for the Golden Bulls.

Johnson and Wales: Greyson Falls (East Gaston 2023) is a freshman forward for the Wildcats.

Lees-McRae: Sidney Dollar (East Lincoln 2019) is a senior forward for the Bobcats.

LSU Shreveport: Former Gaston College standout Damon Davis is a senior guard for the Pilots.

Loyola Chicago: Dame Adelekun (Gaston Day 2019) is a graduate forward for the Ramblers.

Malone University: Former Gaston College standout DaMarco Watson is a junior guard for the Pioneers.

Mars Hill: Former Cramerton Middle School standouts Kendall Davis and Kory Davis are sophomore guards for the Lions.

Memphis: Former Gaston College head coach Jamie Rosser is a 1st-year assistant coach for the Tigers.

Methodist: Eli Osborner (Kings Mountain 2023) is a freshman forward for the Monarchs.

New York 129, Charlotte 107: Visiting Charlotte struggled from the outset as the Knicks set a season-high in points and overcome LaMelo Ball’s 32-point, 7-rebound, 6-assist performance.
