11-12-22 roundup: Pro basketball and football, High school football and soccer, College football, basketball and cross country
By Richard Walker
Gardner-Webb is one win away from the school’s first ever Football Championship Series (FCS) playoff berth after a 42-35 win at Campbell on Saturday.

The Bulldogs (5-5, 4-0) will host North Carolina A&T (7-3, 4-0) for the Big South Conference championship next Saturday at noon and an automatic FCS playoff berth.
In Saturday’s win, Gardner-Webb opened up a big lead and held on for a win that gives the school the 2022 N.C. Pork East/West BBQ Bowl.
Quarterback Bailey Fisher completed 30 of 38 passes for 366 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 48 more yards and another score for a 583-yard offense that racked up 33 first downs. Narii Gaither added 100 yards rushing on 19 carries and T.J. Luther caught eight passes for 132 yards and two touchdowns.
After Campbell closed within 42-35 with 6:43 to play, GWU forced a fourth down Campbell incomplete pass with 1:43 to play and Fisher’s 13-yard run on the Bulldogs’ possession clinched the victory.
Gardner-Webb has won four of its last five games – and the lone loss was 21-20 on Oct. 15 at current No. 19-ranked FBS team Liberty.
