Big South 3A Conference football teams continued their extraordinary postseason run with a perfect second round performance that included three road victories.
The wins set up an all-league 3A Western semifinal in Belmont with South Point hosting Forestview. Crest and Kings Mountain also were winners from the Big South, which is off to its best postseason start in league history of 8-1.
Assured to have at least one more playoff win, the league will at least match its all-time best postseason win total of nine set in the 2007 season when North Gaston was a state runner-up and Ashbrook and South Point were Western semifinalists.
Here’s a look at Friday’s results:
South Point 27, Pisgah 24: Ashton Harris’ 92-yard kickoff return with 4:12 left in the fourth quarter was the difference as the Red Raiders knocked off the top-seeded Bears. Tyson Riley added two touchdown runs for South Point.
Forestview 20, Parkwood 17: The Jaguars had lost four straight playoff games before last week but will take a two-game road playoff winning streak into next week’s game at South Point; In the regular season matchup, South Point won 17-14 in double overtime at Forestview.
Crest 28, West Rowan 15: Mari Adams rushed for 119 yards and four touchdowns as Crest advanced to the Western semifinals for the first time since 2015 and will host North Davidson.
Kings Mountain 27, West Charlotte 17: The Mountaineers won their second straight road playoff game and advance to play next week at Greensboro Dudley.
Statesville 42, East Lincoln 3: For the second time this season, the Greyhounds beat East Lincoln to end the Mustangs’ season at 8-4.
Shelby 42, Polk County 20: Daylin Lee set a school and Cleveland County record with 500 yards passing in the Golden Lions playoff win that sets up a Southern Piedmont 1A/2A Conference rematch at Shelby next week against East Gaston.
Hendersonville 38, Burns 13: For the second straight year, a Cleveland County team is eliminated at Hendersonville. Last year, it was Shelby and this year it was Burns, which ended its season with an 8-4 record.
East Gaston 41, Forest Hills 21: The Warriors advance to the third round for the second time in history next week when it’ll travel to play at Shelby; Shelby won the regular season matchup 62-28 at East Gaston.
Maiden 47, West Lincoln 0: After edging the Rebels 20-14 in the regular season, Maiden won more convincingly at home to end West Lincoln’s season at 9-3.

Cam Newton made his first public comments since signing a one-year contract with the Carolina Panthers on Thursday.
“I know the buzz is going on,” Newton told the media on Friday. “I want everybody to know, I receive it. But this ain’t no parade. Let’s get to work.”
Newton, the Panthers’ No. 1 overall pick in the 2011 draft, had spent nine years with the franchise before being released after the 2019 season. He spent the 2020 season with the New England Patroits before that franchise released him before the current season began.
“It’s always back to winning,” Newton said of the conversations he had with Carolina head coach Matt Rhule and owner David Tepper. “That’s what it’s all about. That’s why I’m here.”
It’s uncertain how much if any Newton would play in Sunday’s 4:05 p.m. road game at the Arizona Cardinals.
