Former Crest High standout Jonathan Bullard made the first game near his hometown a successful one last Sunday when he was a part of the Minnesota Vikings’ 21-13 win over the Carolina Panthers.

A 2012 Crest High graduate and 8-year NFL veteran, Bullard had four tackles for a defensive unit that frustrated Panthers’ rookie quarterback Bryce Young into late mistakes that helped the Vikings rally from deficits for the victory.
“It was exciting coming home and playing in front of my family,” Bullard said. “It was my first time being here in my eight-year career so I was excited all week for it.”
Bullard had once come close to playing in Charlotte as a member of the Panthers’ NFC South rival Atlanta Falcons; Bullard was made inactive for the Falcons’ Dec. 12, 2021 29-21 victory at Carolina.
Bullard got 20 tickets but said he “heard there were a lot of people who came and supported me” after Sunday’s game.
In eight seasons after being a Chicago Bears’ 3rd round draft pick out of Florida in 2016, Bullard has 147 tackles in 86 games (23 starts) for the Bears (2016-18), Arizona Cardinals (2019-20), Seattle Seahawks (2020), Falcons (2021) and Vikings (2022-23).
In Sunday’s victory, which allowed Minnesota to get its first win after an 0-3 start, Carolina led 10-0 in the first half and was ahead 13-7 in the third quarter before the Vikings scored the game’s final 14 points.
“It was huge for us,” Bullard said. “This league is complimentary football. Offense and defense have to work together. We just put our head down, made some plays and got our offense the ball so they could make plays.”
