College athletics
The ACC announced on Tuesday that it has decided “to expand the evaluation of the conference office location to include cities beyond Greensboro” – or where the league offices have been located since the conference’s start in 1953.
Speculation has already began that Charlotte would likely be the next home of the league’s headquarters. That grew following Tuesday’s announcement since the league announced “The criteria will be focused on, but not limited to: 1. Located within the Eastern Time zone, 2. Population size with positive growth trends, 3. Growth and diversity of population, 4. Access to a large hub airport with effective accessibility to and from all ACC member schools, 5. Anticipated benefit to the overall ACC brand and potential synergies to existing and prospective partners, 6. Financial considerations related to operational expenses.
The ACC has held football and basketball media days in Charlotte for the last several years.
Pro basketball
One day after losing their first game of the season, the Charlotte Hornets’ injury report raised some concern about two of the team’s top players.
Charlotte (3-1) lists Terry Rozier (right ankle) as doubtful and P.J. Washington (right knee) as out for Wednesday’s game at Orlando.
Rozier, who missed the last two preseason games and the regular season opener with a left ankle sprain, has pleyed only one game in the regular season. Washington is out for his second straight game.
