Former high school teammates will be on opposite sides of a nationally-televised ACC game on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. on ESPN when N.C. State hosts Virginia Tech.
For N.C. State (5-2, 1-2), Jaylon Scott (Shelby 2019 graduate) has 15 tackles in seven games.

And for Virginia Tech (2-5, 1-3), Dax Hollifield (Shelby 2018) has a team-high 52 tackles including 4 1-2 for losses with two fumble recoveries, one forced fumble in seven starts at linebacker and Jack Hollifield (Shelby 2021) has played in seven games on the offensive line.
Also for N.C. State, Travali Price (North Lincoln 2021) has seven tackles in seven games, former East Lincoln standout Jalen Frazier has one pass interception in three games and Zo Wallace (Huss 2020) is on the Wolfpack roster.
Other area standouts also are having big college football seasons entering the weekend. Here’s a few:
Charlotte (1-7, 0-4): Prince Bemah (Huss 2019) had a career-high 14 tackles last Saturday and has 43 tackles including three for losses with one forced fumble in eight games.
Davidson (6-2, 4-1): Daniel Carter (North Lincoln 2021) has a team-high 45 tackles including three for losses with one pass interception and Mari Adams (Crest 2022) rushed for 101 yards and one touchdown in 13 carries in five games.
Duke (5-3, 2-2): Tony Davis (Huss 2019) has a career-high four tackles last Saturday and has seven tackles in eight games.
East Carolina (5-3, 3-2): Aapri Washington (Mountain Island Charter 2017) had 14 tackles including 1 1-2 for losses in eight games and Devon King (South Point 2020) nine tackles in eight games.
North Carolina A&T (4-3, 2-0): Zachary Leslie (Burns 2016) has 17 catches for 258 yards and two touchdowns, Devin Harrell (Huss 2017) has 14 tackles including five for losses in six games and Kendrick Leslie (Burns 2020) has played in one game.

4A Championship: Myers Park’s Elizabeth Rudisill set an all-time scoring record at the Pinehurst No. 6 with a 10-under 134 after shooting 67s in both rounds of a state championship.
The previous record of 136 was set by East Henderson’s Blair Lamb in 2003.
Myers Park entered the day with a four-shot lead on second place Pinecrest in the team standings, but the Patriots top three combined for a stellar 14-over total in the final round to nip the Mustangs by two shots in the final team standings after Myers Park’s top three posted a combined round of 20-over on the last day.
3A Championship: Eastern Alamance’s Emily Mathews wins won her third straight individual title with a 66 to give her a two-day total of 139 at Longleaf Golf & Family Club.
Wilson Fike outlasted South Central for the team title, as the Golden Demons’ top three scorers on each day combined for an 89-over mark to defeat South Central’s best three scores by 13 strokes.
2A/1A Championship: Newton-Conover won its second straight team title as the Red Devils pulled away from Pine Lake Prep with an 84-over combined score over the two-day tournament at Foxfire Resort’s Red Fox Course.
Caroline Johnson from Pine Lake Prep won the individual title with a 4-over par two-day total.
