Pro football
It doesn’t happen very often but the Carolina Panthers are playing on the same as the NBA Charlotte Hornets.
And Sunday’s games mark the first time Charlotte’s two pro teams are playing against the same market as the Panthers visit the New York Giants in East Rutherford, N.J. at 1 p.m. and the Hornets visit the Brooklyn Nets in Brooklyn.
Last year on Dec. 27, the Panthers won 20-13 at Washington and the Hornets won at home over the Nets 106-104 at home.
That sweep was only the sixth in 48 times the teams have played on the same day; The Panthers and Hornets have been swept 20 times and split the matchups 22 times.
This weekend’s matchup is the first of a record six times this season both teams could play on the same day.
The Panthers visit the Atlanta Falcons while the Hornets host the Portland Trail Blazers on Oct. 31, the Panthers host the New England Patriots while the Hornets visit the Los Angeles Clippers on Nov. 7, the Panthers visit the Arizona Cardinals while the Hornets host the Golden State Warriors on Nov. 14 and the Panthers visit the New Orleans Saints while the Hornets host the Phoenix Suns on Jan. 2.
Also, if the NFL schedules the Panthers game at the Buffalo Bills on Dec. 19, it would be on the same day as the Hornets visit the Phoenix Suns; The NFL has listed the Panthers-Bills game as being played on Dec. 18 or 19.
Here is the Carolina Panthers’ 2021 schedule (with results):
