10-13-21 roundup: Pro basketball and football, Middle school football, College football, High school football, boys soccer and volleyball
By Richard Walker
The Charlotte Hornets now have a week to heal up and get ready for their Oct. 20 regular season opener at home against the Indiana Pacers.
That comes after Wednesday’s 127-59 home loss to the Dallas Mavericks that ended the Hornets’ preseason schedule with a 1-3 record.
Charlotte, already playing without starting guard Terry Rozier (left ankle sprain), starting forward Gordon Hayward (health and safety protocols) and top reserve Kelly Oubre (right ankle sprain), lost two other top players to injury in Wednesday’s game; Miles Bridges (right knee discomfort) and P.J. Washington (left middle finger dislocation) left in the first half and didn’t return to action.
Only two Hornets players scored in double figures – rookie James Bouknight (12 points) and Cody Martin (11) – on a night where Charlotte once trailed by 70 points and made only 27.4 percent of its field goal attempts (23 of 84).
