For the sixth straight season, Belmont and Southwest will clash in a Gaston County Conference middle school football playoff game, this time for the 2021 championship.

Southwest (6-0) will host Belmont (5-2) at Hunter Huss High at 6:30 p.m.
Southwest is a three-time defending county champion with titles in 2017, 2018 and 2019; The 2020 season was cancelled by the coronavirus pandemic. The Roadrunners also have a county-record 30-game winning streak that dates to the 2017 season.
Southwest has beaten Belmont four times during the streak, including 22-8 in Belmont’s first game at its new stadium to open this season.
Belmont, which is the last team to beat the Roadrunners in the 2016 playoffs, leads the all-time series between the schools 18-17-2. The first meeting came in Southwest’s first year of 1982.
This season, under first-year coach Brayon Rhodes, the Roadunners have been led by Anthony Tate, Elijah Littlejohn, Martino Smith, Jr., Jakelon Littlejohn, King Rhodes and Ametrius McCoy.
Belmont’s Wildcats, under coach Ian Gibson, have been led by Zeke Pruitt, Reid Wilson and Aydan Bradley.

The visiting Charlotte Hornets’ reserves yielded 13 straight points to end the game as the Miami Heat rallied for a 104-103 preseason win on Monday night.
Charlotte (1-2) starters Miles Bridges (22 points, 10 rebounds, six assists) and LaMelo Ball (19 points, six rebounds, eight assists) had big games for the Hornets and rookie James Bouknight scored 14 points off the bench.
But Miami, which trailed 103-91 with 3:37 left, completed its game-ending rally when LSU rookie Javonte Smart scored on a three-point play with 7.8 seconds left.
