Crest needed overtime but the Chargers extended their school record conference winning streak on Friday night with a 79-68 overtime with at South Point.
The Chargers improved to 11-2 overall and 4-0 in the Big South 3A with their 32nd straight league win; Crest hasn’t lost a conference game since a 76-63 defeat at Huss on Feb. 4, 2020.
Crest, which surpassed its previous school record of 30 in a 66-39 win at Cramer on Dec. 20, is fourth in Cleveland County boys basketball history for consecutive league victories; Shelby won 44 straight from 2005 to 2009, old Casar High won 38 straight from 1957 to 1959 and Kings Mountain won 35 straight from 1966 to 1969.
Ironically, current Crest coach Brad LeVine was head coach of East Rutherford when the Cavaliers ended Shelby’s 44-game conference winning streak in January 2009.
