1-4-22 roundup: Legion baseball, High school basketball, Pro football and basketball, College football and basketball
By Richard Walker
The return of the North Carolina/South Carolina Challenge of American Legion baseball teams has tweaked its upcoming 2022 lineup with a new team.
Rutherford County Post 423 will now join host Cherryville Post 100 and Fuquay-Varina Post 116 as N.C. teams for the June 24-26 event that will be played at Cherryville’s Fraley Field.
Rutherford County is a first-time participant and replaces perennial power Rowan County.
South Carolina teams that will play in the 2022 event that returns after being cancelled in 2020 and 2021 by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic are Florence Post 1, Fort Mill Post 43 and Greer Post 115.
The challenge, first held in Florence, S.C., in 2007 was held for 13 straight seasons until 2019 with North Carolina holding a 7-6 series advantage.
