Less than a week after winning its first N.C. High School Athletic Association dual team wrestling match, Lincolnton High School will host the Western N.C. 2A regional on Wednesday night.
And the Wolves will be hosting familiar opponents as all four Western N.C. 2A wrestling semifinalists are members of the Catawba Valley 2A conference.
Defending state champion and top-seeded Newton-Conover is Lincolnton’s Western semifinal opponent. The Wolves, who won their first dual team playoff matches last Saturday at Trinity, are the No. 12 seed and have a 20-7 record.
The other Western semifinal pits the area’s winningest dual team, West Lincoln, against Bandys. West Lincoln, the No. 10 seed, has a 26-5 record and has won 63 matches and four state titles in 29 playoff appearances. Bandys is the No. 11 seed.
The semifinal winners will face one another for a berth in Saturday’s 4 p.m. state championship match at the Greensboro Coliseum Field House.
The Eastern semifinals have top-seeded Bunn meeting No. 5 Manteo in one semifinal and No. 2 Southwest Onslow at host No. 11 West Craven.
