Four teams from Gaston County and one from Lincoln will represent the area in the N.C. High School Athletic Association dual team playoffs that begin on Monday.

In Class 1A, Cherryville is the highest local seed and will host playoff matches. The Ironmen, in the playoffs for the 14th time in 16 years, are the No. 4 West seed and will host South Stokes. Swain County and Mitchell County also meet in Cherryville on Monday.

In Class 2A, two of the state’s alltime winners have qualified in East Gaston and West Lincoln.

East Gaston, making its 29th appearance in the 34-year history of the event, is a West No. 6 seed and meets Newton-Conover at Mount Pleasant, which hosts Reidsville in its match.

And West Lincoln, making its 30th appearance, is West No. 12 seed and meets Surry Central at R-S Central, which hosts Southwestern Randolph in its match.

In Class 3A, Forestview and North Gaston qualify from the Big South Conference.

Forestview, in the playoffs for the first time since 2005, is a West No. 9 seed and meets Parkwood at Foard, which hosts West Charlotte in its match.

And North Gaston, making its 22nd playoff appearance, is a West No. 13 seed at visits Eastern Guilford; Enka and East Henderson meet in the other match at Eastern Guilford.

Teams that win two matches on Monday advance to four-team regional finals on Wednesday.

Regional winners in all four classifications advance to the state championship matches next Saturday at the Greensboro Coliseum Field House.

College basketball

Gardner-Webb 61, Radford 42: D’Maurian Williams had 19 points and Lance Terry 11 as the Runnin’ Bulldogs improved to 11-10 overall and 5-3 in the Big South Conference.

Davidson 77, LaSalle 69: After having its 15-game streak come to an end on Wednesday, the Wildcats improved to 17-3 overall and 7-1 in the Atlantic 10 as Luka Brajkovic scored 22 points.

Old Dominion 68, Charlotte 52: The 49ers fell to 11-8 overall and 4-3 in C-USA action after the road loss. Charlotte was led by junior Jahmir Young who scored 13 points, pulled in a trio of rebounds and dished out three assists. Young remains one of two players in Conference USA to have scored in double-figures in every game played this season.

Belmont Abbey 108, Barton 72: The Crusaders (11-8, 9-6) eclipsed 100 points for the second straight game and fourth time in six contests as Ryan Maslow led way with a career-best 18 points.

Barton women 68, Belmont Abbey 67: Jo Snow’s career-high 29 points wasn’t enough for the Crusaders (10-6, 8-4).
