Cramer’s Will Kelly became the eighth Gaston County boys basketball player to score 50 points in a game in Friday’s 85-67 win at Huss.

Kelly, a senior who earlier this week surpassed 1,500 career points, had 50 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and four steals.
Also for the Storm (15-3, 6-3 Big South 3A), Frankie Verdezas had seven points, four assists, three steals and five deflections.
Bessemer City’s Randall Pettus set the county record with 60 points last year and Bessemer City’s Tony Byers (59 in 1969), Stanley’s Don Buckner (52 in 1955), Gaston Day’s Brandis Raley (52 in 2004), Dallas’ Donald Elliott (51 in 1970), Cherryville’s Kenny Poston Jr. (51 in 2014) and Cherryville’s Lane Harrill (51 in 2019) also have scored 50 or more points in county history.

The Charlotte Hornets snapped a six-game losing streak to the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday with a 117-114 win in front of a sellout crowd of 19,469 at Spectrum Center.
Miles Bridges (26 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists), Ish Smith (22 points, 5 assists), LaMelo Ball (20 points, 7 rebounds), Terry Rozier (20 points, 6 rebounds) and Mason Plumlee (8 points, 17 rebounds, 6 assists) led Charlotte (28-22), which has won nine of the last 12 games,
Russell Westbrook had a game-high 35 points for the Lakers, who played without LeBron James (left knee), Anthony Davis (right wrist) and former Hornet Malik Monk (left groin).
