1-1-22 roundup: College football, Pro basketball and football, High school basketball
By Richard Walker
DeaconsIllustrated, a website devoted to Wake Forest University athletics, made the case in a story posted Saturday morning that Clover’s Nick Sciba became the NCAA’s most accurate kicker in history this season based on that organization’s record book.

Sciba, a 2018 Clover graduate, finished his four-year Wake Forest career with 80 field goals out of 89 attempts for an 89.9 conversion percentage after making three field goals in the Deacons’ 38-10 Gator Bowl victory over Rutgers on Friday.
The 2021 All-ACC kicker, college football historians have wondered where Sciba ranks after he connected on 19 of 22 field goals in 2018, 24 of 25 field goals in 2019, 14 of 17 field goals in 2020 and 23 of 25 field goals this season.
According to sportsreference.com, Brett Baer of Louisiana from 2009-12 is the all-time field goal accuracy leader, having made 45 of 50 attempts for a 90.0 precent conversion rate. Sportsreference.com mandates a minimum of 50 attempts.
In the NCAA record book, a minimum of 1.2 field goals made per game is required and Baer only made 1.18 field goals per game; Sciba made 1.67 field goals per game.
Therefore, based on the NCAA recordbook, Sciba is the all-time leader.
